Procedure: T: Good morning, class! T: Nice to see you! T: Sit down, please. T: How are you today? T: Do you like holidays? T: Why do you like holidays? T: What holidays do you know? T: Today we are going to speak about a holiday. What holiday is this? Look at the screen and guess (The demonstration of the clip of Marlin Manson “This is Halloween”). T: Well, how do we call this holiday? T: That’s right. So the topic of our today’s lesson is Halloween! Main part: Lexical presentation T: Now let’s learn the new words. Listen to me and repeat after me 1). Halloween 2). Witch 3). Broomstick 4). Pumpkin 5). Fancy dress 6). Ghost 7). Vampire 8). Trick or Treat ^ Lexical game: T: Listen to the words attentively. When you hear the word on topic “Halloween” please, clap your hands, O.K.? T: (The teacher reads) Culture, while, home, Halloween, phone, article, which, broomstick, editor, newspaper, pumpkin, fancy dress, concert, poster, secretary, spaceman, vampire, compositor, correspondent, Treat or trick, Jack-o-lantern, to deliver, a massage, candle, goblin, skeleton. T: Very well. Now, translate these words into Ukrainian (^ ) T: Halloween, which, broomstick, pumpkin, fancy dress, vampire, Treat or trick, Jack-o-lantern, candle, goblin, skeleton. Word dictation: T: Halloween is coming and we need costumes. Everybody has got a card. Prepare a pencil and look at your card. You can see unfinished pictures and dots. There is a letter next to each dot. I’ll dictate you the words. For example, I dictate cat: you should join c-a-t - Listen to me carefully and join the letters of all the words with one line. If you join the dots in the right order you will get a new costume for a Halloween party. Dictation: witch, vampire, pumpkin, fancy dress, ghost. T: And, now children, show us your costumes. What costumes have you got? P1: I have got a costume of a witch P2: I have got a costume of a bat P3: I have got a costume of a cat T: Now, please, guess the definition: 1). A special dress (fancy dress) 2). Children go from door to door and get some sweets from people (Trick or Treat) 3). Dead person’s spirit (ghost) 4). The night before all Saint’s Day (Halloween) 5). A pumpkin with a candle inside it (Jack-o-lantern) 6). A woman, who can fly and does some bad magic (a witch) 7). A stick, with a help of which we can sweep the floor (a broomstick) 8). The evil creature which feeds on human’s blood (vampire) 9). A beeswax stick, which gives us light (candle) 10). An orange vegetable, the symbol of Halloween ( a pumpkin) “Nut-racing” T: There are several games associated with Halloween. The most famous are nut-race and bobbing for apples. The members of two teams carry nuts in the spoons from one bowl to another, holding the spoons in their mouths. Listening Pre-listening: T: Look at the photo. How do you think 1). What is this man? 2). What nationality is he? 3). What will he tell us about? ^ 1). What is this man? 2). How old is he? 3). What nationality is he? 4). What will he tell us about? After the second demonstration: Now please make your tests (Handouts). Song: Now it’s time to relax again. Let’s sing a song ^ Knock Knock, Trick or Treat Who are you? I’m a ghost. [x2] Reading: T: Oh, thank you. And now please read the text. Answer the questions. Work in pairs. 5. Halloween- that’s a special holiday for children in the United States. It is a time when they can dress up as ghosts, witches, monsters, animals, or other things. 3. Some children go out to trick or treat on Halloween. They go from door to door, ring doorbells, and call out, “Trick or treat”. 2. People, who answer the doors, put treats into children’s bags. In many towns and cities now, children do not go out to trick or treat. 1. It is not safe. Instead, towns, cities, and even neighborhoods have big parties for the children. 4. Children, who go to the parties, get treats. They eat orange and black cakes and cookies, and drink lemonade. They may turn the lights down and tell scary stories about ghosts, monsters, witches and black cats. After all, that’s what Halloween is all about. Pair-work: Answer the questions: 1). Why don’t children go trick or treat nowadays? 2). What are the colours of Halloween? 3). Where can children get sweets on this holiday? 4). Why do the children turn off the light? Role-playing T: Well, and now you are a little tired. Let’s relax and play. It’s a role-play. Who would like to be a witch…… ^ Hello, dear witches, ghosts and other friends. We are here to celebrate Halloween. I see that Jack-o-Lantern is here. Tell us your story, Jack. Jack-o-Lantern: My name is Jack and here is my lantern made from a pumpkin. Spider: I’m a spider. A spider am I. Don’t ever touch me Because you will cry. Black cat: I’m a black cat. Once I was a human but I was punished for my evil deeds. I have become a black cat. ^ : I am a ghost A ghost, a ghost I like to frighten people The most, the most. Ghost: In a dark wood there is a dark house. In the dark house there is a dark room. In the dark room there is a dark box. In the dark box there is a ghost. Skeletons: We are skeletons. Skeletons we are. Aren’t you afraid of us? Ah-ha-ha-ha-ha! Witches: W1: Hello, my horrible! Are you ready for Halloween? W2: Oh, I forgot about it. W1: First, let’s cook something tasty. W2: Good idea! I have some snake’s teeth and a dragon eye. W1: O-o! Put them here! Mm, tasty. W2: By the way, do I look frightening? W1: You look just dreadful. W2: Thanks, you look creepy, too. Happy Halloween! Final part: T: Well, children thank you very much. You worked perfectly well.
